13 October 2022, Thursday - Intermediate Staff Course 22/2022 (ISC 22/2022) conducted its Local Study Tour to different departments and agencies as part of the National Policy Module. The study tour took place for three days which started from Tuesday, 11 October 2022 to Thursday, 13 October 2022. The theme of this year's Study Tour is Brunei Vision 2035 specifically on Goal 3 – Dynamic and Sustainable Economy.
The visit began at the Design and Technology Building, Anggerek Desa Technology Hub for separate briefings by Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) and Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB). Both briefings place an emphasis on the ministry's effort towards Brunei Vision 2035 by diversifying Brunei Darussalam's economy, which enable the local MSMEs to thrive. The visit also focused on the vision of DARe, to build enterprises into dynamic and resilient drivers of economic growth in line with Brunei Vision 2035 goal number 3, towards a dynamic and sustainable economy. The visit then continued to the Manpower Planning & Employment Council (MPEC), JobCentre Brunei where the participants were briefed on the current unemployment issues and the challenges towards achieving Wawasan Brunei 2035.
The following day, the course participants visited the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT). The department delivered a briefing on the fisheries sector production and their target for the year 2022-2025. The visit also included fruitful discussion on the importance of fisheries department's roles in contributing to Brunei's GDP Growth.
Final day of the Study Tour consist of visits to the Department of Foresty, Department of Agriculture and Agrifood at Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) as well as Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd. At the Department of Forestry, the course participants were given a briefing by the Director of Forestry on overview of Brunei Forest Resources as well as laws, regulations, policies and strategy to forest management. One of their roles included the implementation of forestry programmes in supporting national development in terms of economic, environment and social. The Department of Agriculture and Agrifood also gave a briefing focusing on the vision towards increasing production on agriculture and agrifood based industries through increasing productivity and high technology oriented for domestic and export market. The final visit of the Study Tour was to the Hengyi Industries Sdh Bhd where the course participants were briefed on its contribution to Wawasan Brunei 2035, Hengyi initiatives is to provide scholarships and training for the locals in order to equip their knowledge and skill to work in Hengyi Industries and its contribution to Brunei's GDP growth by exporting products in the oil and gas downstream industry.
Overall, the study tour aimed to introduce ISC 22/2022 participants to the stakeholders as part of a Whole of Nation approach towards implementing services and achieving vision 2035 and to adapt to the challenges faced by these institutions.
