Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Monday, 17 October 2022- The 22nd Intermediate Staff Course (ISC 22/2022), Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) commenced the Overseas Study Tour (OST) programme in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
The OST programme is led by the Head of Delegation, Lieutenant Colonel (U) Peter bin Ulat@Yulat including course participants consisting of 45 RBAF officers, four International students and one Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF). Accompanying the ISC delegations are the Directing Staffs and the Acting Administrative Officer of the Leadership Management Centre (LMC).
The OST programme is scheduled for six days consisting of visits to several cultural areas such as the Monosopiad Cultural Village and Mari-Mari Heritage Culture whereas the military visit includes the 5th Infantry Brigade in Lok Kawi, Sepanggar Naval Base and Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) center.
The aim of the OST programme are to provide course participants with first-hand knowledge and experience pertaining to the history of war and security issues faced by the Eastern Malaysian region. The programme also provide an opportunity for course participants to witness historical places and memorials upclose and the overview key terrain of military operations in Northen Borneo for better appreciation of its tactical and strategic decision making process during the rebellion uprising and the incursion in 1943 and 2013 respectively.
In addition, through the OST programme, course participants learnt the mitigation plan and framework operations adopted by military organizations to counter arising non-traditional threats and the adaptation of military developement plan to align with the fast changing local and regional security landscapes. The mitigation plans also include enhancement of security through various strategic cooperation amongst government agencies in Sabah.
