TANAH JAMBU, Friday, 1 September 2023 - The Opening Ceremony of the Intermediate Staff Course 23/2023 (ISC 23/2023) was held today at the Auditorium of the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF), Kampung Tanah Jambu. Present to officiate the Opening ceremony was the Guest of Honour, Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haii Yusof, Commandant of DA RBAF. Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Commandant of DA RBAF, Defence Attaches/Advisors and officers from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Force.
The opening ceremony began with the recitation of Surah AI-Fatihah and verses of Surah Al Nahl (Verse 76-79) led by course participant 1156 Captain Muhammad Nasyrul Wafiy bin Haji Mahdini from The Religious Directorate RBAF. This was followed by an opening remark delivered by the Guest of Honour. In his remarks, he mentioned that ISC will not just offer mastery of staff duties. Rather, it dwells deeper in amplifying the understanding and analysis of operational and strategic issues. The Intermediate Staff Course marks a pivotal moment in the journey of professional advancement for the course participants. The course acts as a bridge to future roles as middle management officers. He also urged course participants to continue to maintain high standards and spirits, and pioneer new innovative approaches.
The ISC 23/2023 is a 14-week course conducted by the Leadership and Management Centre, DA RBAF. The course aims to prepare officers at the intermediate to middle management level to become credible and competent Staff Officers in single-service and joint environments. In addition, it also aims to develop and improve officers' knowledge, communication skills, leadership, management, professionalism and teamwork. ISC is a mandatory course for RBAF Officers holding the rank of Captain/Lieutenant RBN prior to being promoted to Major/Lieutenant Commander RBN.
The total attendees for this year ISC 23/2023 are 43 participants, consisting of 15 officers from the Royal Brunei Land Force, 14 officers from the Royal Brunei Navy, 9 officers from the Royal Brunei Air Force, one officer from the Royal Brunei Police Force as well as 4 international military officers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
