TANAH JAMBU, Thursday, 22 August 2019 – The 9th Command and Staff Course (CSC 9) received representatives from the Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre (MPC) to deliver lessons on “United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Operations” at the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF). The three-day workshop began on 20 August 2019, and was conducted by the MPC Chief Instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Sukiman bin Mohamed Ghani, and two instructors Major Haizal bin Mohamed Ariffin, and Major Mohd Noor Izam bin Abd Rahim. They were warmly welcomed by the Commandant of DA RBAF, Colonel Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan.During the workshop, the MPC instructors taught students on the importance of the UN peacekeeping operations, the roles and principles of each UN organisation, and challenges from the security environment. In addition, the representatives also helped the students understand the UN Security Council mandates, human rights, gender issues in UN Peacekeeping, protection of civilians, and child protection. On the final day, the representatives also provided CSC 9 with an opportunity to understand the challenges of peacekeeping through a case study of peacekeeping in South Sudan.
Major Kim Hae Young, the representative student from the CSC 9 conveyed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the MPC representatives for taking their valuable time to conduct this insightful workshop for CSC 9. On behalf of CSC 9, Major Mohd Syukri bin Kamarudin, the international student from the Royal Malaysian Air Force, also presented the Chief Instructor Lieutenant Colonel Sukiman with a token of appreciation.
This is the third consecutive year in which the RBAF Command and Staff College has invited the MPC to deliver lectures on peacekeeping operations to the CSC students.
