COMMANDANT OF DEFENCE ACADEMY ROYAL BRUNEI ARMED FORCES
COLONEL (U) AZMIE ISKANDAR BIN ARIFFIN
Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar bin Ariffin joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in July 1996 and was commissioned in 1997 after completing Initial Officer Training at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell, United Kingdom. He earned his pilot wings in 1999 after completing basic flying training and rotary wing courses at No 3 Squadron (Flying Training School) Royal Brunei Air Force.
MILITARY AND CIVILIAN EDUCATION: Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar has attended the 2nd RBAF Command and Staff Course in 2012. In 2016, he attended the 13th Executive Development Programme with Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy for Senior Government Officials.
APPOINTMENT HIGHLIGHT: Throughout his career, he has held several positions, starting with Flight Commander Training, Flight Commander Operations, Officer Commanding No. 2 Squadron, Officer Commanding No. 63 Squadron Flying Training School, Light Observation Helicopter Standard and Evaluation Officer, Staff Officer Grade 2 Training, Headquarters, and Staff Officer Grade 1 Operations (Air), Joint Force Headquarters.
From 2018 to 2020, he served as the 4th Defence Attaché to the Peoples Republic of China and non-resident Defence Attaché to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Following his overseas tour, he was appointed Acting Commandant of the Defence Academy RBAF in 2021 and Deputy Commandant from January 2022 to February 2024. On February 2024 to October 2025, he held the position as the Head of Inspectorate Unit Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF). He is currently the 6th Commandant of the Defence Academy RBAF and was appointed on 10th October 2025.
AWARD AND DECORATION: Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar’s first operational assignment was flying the MBB Bolkow BO105 helicopter fleet in 2000. In 2004, he was awarded as a certified Maintenance Check Flight pilot by the Eurocopter Flight Test Instructor and in 2005, he was awarded as a Qualified Helicopter Instructor (QHI) from the Republic of Singapore Air Force.
In 2011, Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar was bestowed by His Majesty the Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam with The Most Blessed Order of Setia Negara Brunei 4th Class (P.S.B) and in 2014, he received the Long Service and Good Conduct (Military) Medal. In recognition of his efforts and achievements in strengthening defence diplomacy between Brunei Darussalam and People’s Republic of China, he was awarded the Commemorative Medal by the Ministry of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China.
Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar is married to Ismawati binti Pehin Bendahari Haji Abu Bakar and blessed with three children. He enjoys outdoor activities, workouts, reading and spending quality time with his family.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL HAJI MOHAMMAD GHAZALI BIN HAJI HUSSIN
Lieutenant Colonel Haji Mohammad Ghazali bin Haji Hussin began his career in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in November 2002 and was commissioned as an Officer in 2005 after completing his Officer Cadet training at the Officer Cadet School, SAFTI Military Institute, Singapore.
Throughout his military career, Lieutenant Colonel Haji Mohammad Ghazali has held a wide range of command, instructional and staff appointments. His command experience includes serving as an Infantry Platoon Commander, Engineer Troop Commander, Officer Commanding of the Combat Engineer Squadron, Officer Commanding of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosive (CBRE) Defence Unit, and as the inaugural Commanding Officer of the Engineer Regiment, Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF). He also served at the Defence Academy as the Head of the Leadership and Management Centre and Deputy Chief Instructor. In addition, he has held key staff appointments at the RBLF Headquarters, including Assistant Chief of Staff Personnel and Administration, and Staff Officer Grade 2 Training.
Throughout his service, Lieutenant Colonel Haji Mohammad Ghazali has attended numerous professional military courses, including the Regimental Officer Basic Course (Engineers) in Australia, the Explosive Ordnance Basic and Advanced Commander’s Courses in Singapore, the Company Commander’s Course in Brunei Darussalam, the Grade 2 Staff and Tactics Course in Malaysia, and the 8th Command and Staff College in Brunei Darussalam.
Academically, Lieutenant Colonel Haji Mohammad Ghazali holds a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in General Science Education from Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Following the completion of the Command and Staff Course in 2018, he obtained a Master of Defence and Security Studies from Universiti Brunei Darussalam with Distinction. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Lee Kuan Yew Senior Fellowship in Public Service (SFPS) at the National University of Singapore.
Lieutenant Colonel Haji Mohammad Ghazali is married to Hajah Suryanti Jurinah binti Haji Mohd Jumin, and they are blessed with three daughters. Outside his professional commitments, he enjoys golf, running and hiking.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL PENGIRAN SITI KHATAMALZARIAH
BINTI PENGIRAN HAJI KAMALUDIN
Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Siti Khatamalzariah binti Pengiran Haji Kamaludin joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 18 April 2005. Following an initial period of military training at the RBAF Training Institute, she undertook Officer Cadet training at SAFTI Military Institute, Singapore, and was commissioned in December 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education with Honours from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Throughout her service, she has gained experience in intelligence, human resource management, training management and professional military education. Her principal area of interest is human resource management, particularly the planning, coordination and management of military training and personnel development. These appointments have allowed her to contribute to the development of personnel and military education within the RBAF.
In 2020, she was appointed as the first female Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet School. This was followed by her appointment as the first female Directing Staff at the Command and Staff College in June 2023. Lieutenant Colonel Khatamal is married to Pengiran Haji Wijaya Kesumadi and is blessed with two daughters. In her leisure time, she enjoys travelling and participating in social responsibility initiatives that support and engage the elderly.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL DK NUR IZZAH NAZURAH BINTI PG HJ MOHAMMAD
Lieutenant Colonel Dk Nur Izzah Nazurah binti Pg Hj Mohammad was appointed as the Head of the Leadership and Management Centre on 9 August 2024. She joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in April 2005 and was commissioned in December 2006 after completing her training at the Officer Cadet School, Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute Military Institute (SAFTI MI), Republic of Singapore.
Throughout her career, Major Dk Nur Izzah Nazurah has held a variety of staff and instructional appointments. She began as Staff Officer Grade 3 (Operations and Training) at Support Services RBAF, later serving as Staff Officer Grade 3 (Training) at the Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces. In July 2012, she joined the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces, where she undertook several roles, including Training Officer of Officer Cadet School, Directing Staff at the Leadership and Management Centre from 2015 to 2019, and Academic Advisor at the Defence Academy RBAF Headquarters from 2019 to 2023. Before assuming her current role, she served as Staff Officer Grade 2 to the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Major Dk Nur Izzah Nazurah has also pursued professional development through various courses, including the Junior Staff Course (Defence Academy RBAF), Para Counsellor Course (SAF), Basic and Advanced Manpower Courses (SAFTI MI), and the Command and Staff Course (Defence Academy RBAF). She holds a Master of Defence and Security Studies from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), which she completed in 2023, following her Graduate Diploma in Defence and Security Studies, as part of the Command and Staff Course.
Major Dk Nur Izzah Nazurah was awarded the Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB) in 2017. Beyond her professional commitments, she is an avid sports enthusiast, engaging in volleyball, basketball, and running. She is also a passionate follower of Formula 1 Racing.

COMMANDING OFFICER OCS
LIEUTENANT COLONEL FAIZAL AZLY BIN HAJI ROSLI BEGAN
Lieutenant Colonel Faizal Azly bin Haji Rosli began his service with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 2007, completing Recruit Training before joining the first intake of the Officer Cadet School (OCS). He was subsequently selected to attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, United Kingdom, in September 2009.
Upon commissioning, he was assigned as Platoon Commander, A Company, 2nd Battalion, Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF). In 2011, he was posted as Unit Search Advisor and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Commander at the Chemical, Biological and Explosive Defence Unit, Support Battalion, RBLF. In 2016, he was appointed Officer Commanding of the same unit, overseeing specialised defence and response capabilities.
Prior to assuming command of the School of Infantry in 2023, he served as Officer Commanding, Officer Development Wing, School of Infantry, where he was responsible for the professional and leadership development of junior officers. He was subsequently appointed Commanding Officer, School of Infantry, RBLF.
Lieutenant Colonel Faizal Azly has undertaken extensive professional military education and specialist training, including the EOD Commander Course and Battalion Tactics Course in the Republic of Singapore and the Chemical, Biological and Nuclear Defence Course in Malaysia.
In 2021, he graduated from the Command and Staff College at the Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces, earning a Diploma in Military Security.
He is married to Nad’ya Faroah binti Haji Said and is blessed with two sons.

SENIOR ACADEMIC ADVISOR DEFENCE ACADEMY ROYAL BRUNEI ARMED FORCES
MOHAMMAD HAZWAN BIN MOHAMMAD AZANI
Mohammad Hazwan bin Mohammad Azani has served as Senior Academic Adviser at the Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces since October 2022. His work focuses on education research and the development of Professional Military Education (PME) within the RBAF, including key programmes such as the Master of Defence and Security Studies and the forthcoming Bachelor of Defence and Security Studies.
Mohammad Hazwan obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from University College London in 2014, under the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Scholarship awarded in 2011. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Management, Organisations, and Governance at the London School of Economics. In 2024, he completed the 14th RBAF Command and Staff Course, where he received the Commandant’s Award, the OBOE Endeavour Academic Excellence Award from the Government of Australia, and a Graduate Diploma in Defence and Security Studies from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
He began his defence civilian career as a Research Officer at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS). He subsequently served at the Permanent Secretary’s Office, Ministry of Defence, before being appointed Communications Officer to The Honourable Minister of Defence II, where he was responsible for ministerial speeches and public engagements. During his tenure at the Ministry of Defence, he contributed across several areas, including strategic communications, capability development, and defence diplomacy.
His professional interests include defence and security studies, the advancement of professional military education, and organisational and policy research.
