Lieutenant Colonel (U) Peter bin Ulat @ Yulat enlisted in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) on the 9th of February 1998 and completed his recruit training 7th August 1998. He was later commissioned as an officer on the of 2nd October 1999 at Officer Cadet School (SAFTI) Singapore and subsequently completed his 7th Weapon Speacialist Officer, Air Defence Artillery (WSO ADA) Basic Course 23rd Gun Officer in the same year.
In the year 2000, he attended the Intelligence Officer and Aircraft Recognition Trainers Course and began his career as a Troop Commander in what was then 33 Squadron, Air Regiment RBAirF. In the following year, he attended a number of courses, among them the Helicopter Abseil Instructor Course, Command Post Officer and Air Defence Young Officer Course. In 2004, he became the Intelligence Officer in Air Regiment Headquarter. He was promoted to the rank of Captain on the 24th of August 2005. From 2007 to 2009, he attended the Junior Staff Course and IOSH International Managing Safety Course. Upon completing his courses, he was promoted to Major on the 3rd of June 2009 and posted as 2IC (2nd In Command) of 33 Squadron, Air Regiment RBAirF.
In February 2011 to November 2013 he was appointed as SO2 Future Systems at Directorate of Force Capability Development, Ministry of Defence and during that time he attended the RBAF C4ISR Operator Course, Capability Development Workshop, Brunei Darussalam MINDEF Capability Management and Business Research Method and Defence Project Management. In the year 2013, he attended Command and Staff Course, upon completing the course he returned back to the Air Regiment, what is now No.2 Wing as the 2IC. In 2014, he attended the Ground Based Air Defence Command and Control (GBAD C2) Course in Paris. In the year of 2015, he obtained his Master of International Security from the Massey University, New Zealand. He held the post as Commanding Officer of No.2 Wing from1st January 2016 to 14 May 2018.
On 26th of May 2017, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He was honored with Pingat Laila Tugas in the year 2000 and earns Pingat Jubli Emas in 2011. In March 2018, Lt Col (U) Peter was awarded the "Pingat Kerja Lama and Perangai Baik" (Military Long Service and Good Conduct Medal). The medal is awarded to those military personnel in recognition of their commitment in serving the armed forces for 18 years with good conduct and discipline. Currently, he is holding the appointment as Chief Instructor in Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Lieutenant Colonel (U) Peter is married to Anera Lenny binti Liwat, together they have two daughters Abigail Tearra and Abrielle Rebekah with two sons Abel and Abner. His current interest is golfing both for leisure and work.
