Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yusof joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in June 1993 and was commissioned in 1995 after completing his officer training at Officer Cadet School, Waiouru, in the New Zealand. Upon his returned, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant where he served as an Infantry Platoon Commander at the 3rd Battalion Royal Brunei Land Forces.

Throughout his service, he has held various command, staff and instructional appointments. His command and instructional positions vary from junior level as Infantry Platoon Commander, Intake Commander of Recruit Company, Mortar Platoon Commander, Adjutant, Rifle Company Commander and Command Company Commander of 2nd Battalion Royal Brunei Land Force. His staff appointment was as the Staff Officer Grade 2 (Personnel and Administration), Royal Brunei Land Force Headquarters. He also held as the Officer Commanding at the School of Infantry, Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Battalion Second-in-Command in 3rd Battalion, Royal Brunei Land Force.

He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 2013 and was the Commanding Officer at Officer Cadet School of Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces from 2013 until 2015. He held several key appointments including as Chief Instructor and the Deputy Commandant of Training Institute of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. He also held as the Staff Officer Grade 1 Joint Warfare, Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre, Joint Force Headquarters from 2018 until 2020 and was promoted to Colonel and became the Head of Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre. In August 2021, Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yusof was assigned as the Co-Chairman of the National Covid-19 Coordination Centre Covid-19 before appointed as the Commandant of Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces on 2nd January 2022.  

In the fields of training and education, Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin has attended numerous courses from overseas such as Platoon Commander Course, Pulada in Malaysia, the Advanced Mortar Course, Offensive Support Division in Australia, Basic Manpower Officer in Singapore, Mortar Platoon Commander Course, Mortar Division, Warminster United Kingdom, Company Commander Course, Pulada, Johor Malaysia, United Nations Military Observers Course, Malaysia and Combined Arms Tactics Course, Land Warfare Centre, Warminster, United Kingdom. He attended Lee Kuan Yew, School of Public Policy Executive Development Programme in Public Policy & Management in 2015, Command & Staff Course (CSC) at Goh Keng Swee Command & Staff College Singapore, Intermediate Staff Course (ISC) at the Australian Land Warfare Centre.

In 2006, Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yusof was awarded the Most Honourable Order of the Crown of Brunei, Third Class (SMB) from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Long Service and Good Conduct Medal Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 2013.

Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yusof is married and blessed with five children. During his free time, he enjoys reading, outdoor activities and golfing for leisure.
