TANAH JAMBU, Monday, 25 May 2026 - A total of 34 Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) officers completed the Junior Officer Development Course (JODC) Serial 01/2026 at the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF).
The course was attended by four officers from the Ministry of Defence, fifteen officers from the Royal Brunei Land Force, four officers from the Royal Brunei Navy, ten officers from the Royal Brunei Air Force and one officer from the Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Present as the Guest of Honour was Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar bin Ariffin, Commandant of DA RBAF. Also present were senior officers of DA RBAF, as well as representatives from Services and Units.
The ceremony featured the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and verses 08–11 of Surah Al-Maidah by Lieutenant Shaikh Sharul Azhar bin Shaikh Haji Ahmad.
In his remarks, the Guest of Honour highlighted that JODC Serial 01/2026 reflects the RBAF’s commitment to strengthening Professional Military Education through a more structured, holistic and competency-based approach. He further emphasised that the course plays an important role in developing junior officers who are knowledgeable, professional, adaptable, able to think critically, lead confidently and operate effectively in an increasingly complex security environment.
The Guest of Honour then presented the JODC participants with their certificates of course completion and excellence awards. Lieutenant (U) Muhammad Khalid Wassadi Salleh bin Haji Mahmud from the Royal Brunei Air Force received the Overall Best Student Award, while the Best Research Paper Award was presented to Lieutenant Pauline Tan from the Royal Brunei Land Force.
The six-week course was designed to equip junior officers with fundamental skills and understanding in leadership, military knowledge, and current developments in international and regional affairs. The JODC also aims to better prepare junior officers for their future roles and responsibilities with a heightened sense of confidence and effectiveness.
