AUSTRALIA, 9 August 2022 – A total of 12 officers comprising of the Oboe Endeavour Academic Excellence Award recipients of 2020 and 2021 were invited to Australia for the Oboe Endeavour Academic Excellence Program from 1 to 9 August 2022.
This program aimed to impart knowledge to the officers about Australia and its defence force, share commonalities on the region’s security and interest, as well as to build stronger relationship between the armed forces and enhance the bilateral defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and Australia.
The participants had the opportunity to meet with key leaders of the Australian Defence Force and participate in discussions about Australian Defence Policy and the roles, responsibilities and international engagement of the Australian Defence Force. The program also includes visits to defence facilities at Russell, the Australian Defence College and Fleet Base East Sydney as well as educational and cultural visits and activities such as the visit to the Australian Parliament House, the Hyde Park Barracks and Anzac memorial, and the Australian War Memorial where they observed and participated in the Last Post Ceremony including wreath laying.
The Oboe Endeavour Academic Excellence Program is awarded to the Command and Staff participants who have achieved outstanding results during the course. It was named in commemoration of the Australian Forces’ contribution to the successful liberation of Borneo from Japanese occupation during Operation OBOE in World War II, which marked the beginning of defence relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Australia.
