Tasek Merimbun, Tuesday, 24 November, 2020 – The Commander’s Challenge for Intake 19 was conducted by the Officer Cadet School Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (OCS DA RBAF) from 23 November 2020 to 24 November 2020. The challenge was held from Empangan Air Jubli Emas Ulu Tutong to Taman Warisan Tasek Merimbun.
A total number of 73 Officer Cadets participated in the final leadership exercise which was designed to test their endurance, both physically and mentally, command and control as a leader and as a team over a stretch of 42 Km route. Nine scenarios with different types of obstacles and problem solving tasks were set up at different locations.
Despite the extreme heat and bad weather conditions, the Officer Cadets endured and successfully finished the Commander’s Challenge. The winner of the challenge was awarded to Section 9 where they clocked in the fastest time of 5 hours and 2 minutes.
Present as the Guest of Honour was the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat. Also present was Lieutenant Colonel Suriyati binti Haji Junaidi, the Acting Commandant of DA RBAF, Major Pg Siti Khatamalzariah binti Pg Hj Kamaludin, Commanding Officer of OCS, Defence Academy Executive Committee members and invited Officers from Services units. The event concluded with a prize presentation by the Guest of Honour to the winning section.
The Commander’s Challenge has taught the Officer Cadets to lead decisively and think critically under pressure as well as to encourage competitiveness among the sections. The RBAF Commander emphasised that teamwork is an important component to possess in order to be successful in the military.
