THE MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES DEFENCE COLLEGE SERIES 44/2024 VISIT TO DEFENCE ACADEMY ROYAL BRUNEI ARMED FORCES

TANAH JAMBU, Wednesday, 17 July 2024 – A delegation from the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College (MAFDC) 44/2024 visited the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF) as part of their study tour in Brunei. The delegation consisted of 16 officers and 69 Course Participants, led by First Admiral Haji Shahriman bin Hj Mahmud, Commandant of MAFDC and Head of Delegation. The delegation was welcomed by Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Yusof, Commandant of DA RBAF. 

The visit began with a Courtesy Call with the Commandant of DA RBAF. During the call, Commandant DA RBAF expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for First Admiral Haji Shahriman bin Hj Mahmud's visit, emphasising the honour of hosting him and the delegation in Brunei. He also highlighted the importance of such visits in fostering strong bilateral relations and enhancing mutual understanding between the two defence institutions.

The visit continued with briefings from the Directorate of Intelligence, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institure of Defence and Strategic Studies, and the Directorate of Defence Policy. These briefings aimed at conveying the strategic outlook of the Ministry of Defence and its policies derived from the Defence White Paper of 2021. This was followed by a briefing from Joint Force Headquarters on its role and function, highlighting the importance of joint military exercises in enhancing operational readiness and collaboration with other government agencies to maximise the concept of Holistic Defence. Lastly, a briefing from Defence Academy on the overview of the Professional Military Education policy and framework, emphasizing the need to ensure the curriculum stays current to meet contemporary global security threats. 

The brief was concluded with a question & answer session followed by closing remark by Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence and an alumnus at MAFDC before the visit ended with a luncheon at the Ceremonial Hall.
