KAMPUNG TANAH JAMU, Thursday, 31 August 2017 - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the Sovereign’s Parade ceremony for 32 Military Officer Cadets of the 16th Intake of the Officer Cadet School (OCS).
Upon arrival, His Majesty, who is also the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), was greeted on arrival at the Parade Square of the RBAF Defence Academy in Kampong Tanah Jambu by the Commander of the RBAF Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah and the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
His Majesty then received the royal salute and inspected the guard of honour parade commanded by 928 Lieutenant Junior Grade Muhd Adib Izzuddin bin Haji Ramli, RBN. The guard of honour then proceeded to perform a march-past.
After delivering a titah, His Majesty conferred various awards on officer cadets who performed exceptionally well in various fields throughout the course.
Receiving the Sword of Honour Award was 51829 Officer Cadet Daniel bin Tanggiling, who holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Environmental Studies from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). His Majesty later presented the Best Academic Award to 51836 Officer Cadet Fadhil bin Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Joharie, who holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Professional Communications and New Media from UBD. Meanwhile, the Best Military Skills Award was granted to 51841 Officer Cadet Muhd Zulfadli Hayat bin Shamsul Hayat who holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Hospitality Management, Laksamana College of Business, Brunei Darussalam and the Best in Physical Training Award was presented to 51826 Officer Cadet Abdul Hakim bin Haji Shahrum, who holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Information Technology International Graduate Studies College, Brunei Darussalam.
The ceremony further continued with a “Junjung Ziarah” from the newly commissioned officer cadets with their families. His Majesty also consented to receive a pesambah entitled “Nur Al-Haq” which means ‘Light of Defence’.
His Majesty also consented to sign a commemorative Royal Parchment and the newly commissioned Officer Cadet Book of Journey. Prior to leaving the ceremony, His Majesty consented to receive another “Junjung Ziarah” from instructors and officers of the Officer Cadet School including military officers from friendly countries. The event then concluded with a group photo session.
