TANAH JAMBU, Wednesday, 24 June 2026 – The Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF) received a courtesy call from Major General (Rtd) Suzanne P. Vares-Lum, Director of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS).
During the call, Colonel (U) Azmie Iskandar bin Ariffin, Commandant of DA RBAF, and Major General (Rtd) Suzanne P. Vares-Lum discussed potential areas of collaboration between DA RBAF and DKI APCSS in Professional Military Education, training, knowledge exchange and capacity building.
The discussion also focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation through curriculum development, visiting lecturers, academic and professional exchanges, as well as collaboration in the use of Artificial Intelligence and related policies. Both sides also exchanged views on areas of mutual interest, including emerging technology, defence diplomacy and strategic thinking, with the aim of supporting DA RBAF’s role in developing future-ready RBAF officers and contributing to wider defence objectives, including the Defence White Paper Update 2026.
The Commandant also expressed his appreciation for the support and continued participation of the United States in the RBAF Command and Staff Course (CSC) since 2011, as well as previous engagements with DKI APCSS, including its academic contribution to the 14th RBAF CSC in 2024. Both sides looked forward to exploring a more structured and mutually beneficial partnership between DA RBAF and DKI APCSS.
